Blazing Star does however feel a little less skilful than Pulstar and is more of a case of building up your arsenal and holding down the fire button to get through the game, but it definitely isn't as bad as Zed Blade for example in that respect.
Graphics:
One of the most impressive parts of this game is undoubtedly the graphics. The phrase “even better than Pulstar” springs straight to mind. The craft and bosses all look great, and the backgrounds are wonderfully detailed. As I said earlier, everything also moves along at a really good pace too, with only some minor slowdown in places, but that's nothing to worry about. This game also opens with one of the nicest intros on the Neo Geo, which shows the craft and their anime style pilots.
Sound effects & Music:
No less impressive however is the music, which is excellent. Every level on the game is accompanied by some of the best tunes you are likely to hear on this system, and there are some good sound effects and speech to go along with them. The voice that shouts "BONUS!" all the time got on my nerves after a while though. That's the only fault I can find with it, and it is only a minor one!

I have stated many times that Pulstar is very hard, so if you really like a challenge that will take great skill to get through then you will probably prefer that. If you aren't a complete “shoot ‘em up demon” then you will probably prefer this game though. Personally I love 'em both to pieces, but I just about prefer this game. Now that's either because this game reminds me of Project X on the Amiga which I rate as a classic, or it's because I am crap at Pulstar. I will let you decide which one! :-)
